Richard Rubin and Siobhan Hughes in their article Senate Passes Sweeping Revision of U.S. Tax Code, explain the new tax bill that has been passes and how it lowers individual rates by using a formal diction with words such as "sustained", "simplification", and "overhaul". The emotional attachment the authors have with this topic is quite large since it will affect not only themselves but also everyone in America. They show how much they care about this topic by using different types of credible source and including graphs to simplify the explanation but they do not share much of their own opinion on the new tax bill. The words, statements, and quotes create a factual tone. Rubin and Hughes appeal to logos by using statistics to explain what the new tax bill includes, "included about $1.4 trillion in tax cuts, would lower the corporate rate to 20% from 35%, reshape international business tax rules and temporarily lower individual taxes". They also appeal to ethos by providing credible sources such as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senator Susan Collins. The purpose of this article is to inform readers of the new tax bill and what it could mean for their future economic status, "This bill will provide much-needed tax relief and simplification for lower- and middle-income families". The authors organize their argument in different sections of which the tax bill will include such as medical deductions or student loan deductions. The argument is consistent throughout the article.
